2016 Office Design for the RIT Photonics Initiative
Photonics is the science of generating and harnessing light, and other radiant energy sources to provide power to technology.
In the redesigned space of the Photon Initiative at the Rochester Institute of Technology, the diligently working research teams and professors follow light, so far, that the entire program is based on studying particles of light. Similar to how light can fragment with some areas brighter than others, spaces will be broken up into public and private spaces. Conceptually, lighting is used throughout the design to reflect the innovation and new technology that the program has to offer. Connectivity and interaction within the office will be enhanced through the newly redesigned incubator spaces. They are meant to foster the individual creative spirit, while collaborative spaces allow for those ideas to connect. Lowered ceilings bring the collaboration on a more focused level that allows workers to feel contained and safe.
